The award-winning enemble The Glasgow Wind Band play their showcase concert at the RSAMD on Saturday 5th March.

Contemporary British composers are very much to the fore in a programme of fresh, accessible modern classical music. The evening will have a distinctly New World feel, with great music inspired by great cities: New York, New Orleans and Buenos Aires.

The concert will open with a picture of New York by Nigel Hess (who's numerous television scores include Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Ballykissangel and Ladies in Lavender).

The dark, seductive passion of the tango is captured in Adam Gorb's Midnight in Buenos Aires while Christopher Coleman's A Jazz Funeral depicts the mournful procession of a New Orleans funeral, as well as the high-kicking return from the burial.

The concert is sure to be a treat for both the casual music lover and the discerning classical music fan with an opportunity to hear works from lesser-known composers working the the unique setting of a wind ensemble.
