Metropolis 1927

A dystopian vision of the future, with the privileged living a life of pleasure, serviced by an underclass of worker drones living underground. This is Metropolis, the 1927 film by Fritz Lang. Peter Graham's piece Metropolis 1927 is his musical response to the film, with a noirish style and visions of the brooding machine rooms, decadent nightclubs and gothic cathedrals of the film. Metropolis 1927 forms the centrepiece of this concert by the Glasgow Wind Band.

In addition, we revisit London 2012 with Tom Daveron's Olympic Return to the White City, St Petersburg 1943 for Shostakovich's Festive Overture, before finishing in the Royal Court of Henry VI in London 1450(ish) for Gallimaufry, a tribute to Guy Woolfenden, music director to the Royal Shakespeare Company who died last year.
