SCBF 2026
Glasgow Wind Band was delighted to appear in Perth in 2026 as invited performers at the Scottish Concert Band Festival. Our programme featured Martin Dalby’s Plain Man’s Hammer, a vibrant and imaginative work originally written for the Dunbartonshire Wind Ensemble. Dalby conceived the piece as a spirited counterpart to Boulez’s Le Marteau sans maître, crafting music that celebrates the energy and enthusiasm of amateur musicians while still offering rich complexity and colour.
The performance took the audience on a lively journey through Dalby’s playful musical parodies — from waltz-like elegance to bold marches and flashes of tango and flamenco — all woven into a structure inspired by classical sonata form. It was a privilege to bring this uniquely Scottish contribution to the wind band repertoire to the SCBF stage.
